Manchac Swamp
Stretching between Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas in Southeastern Louisiana, Manchac Swamp—also known as the Ghost Swamp of Frenier—is an eerie labyrinth of cypress groves, Spanish moss, and black bayou waters. The swamp is world-famous for its haunting connection to the 1915 New Orleans Hurricane, which wiped out the logging towns of Frenier, Ruddock, and Akapulco, allegedly fulfilling a deadly curse uttered by Voodoo priestess Julia Brown. Visitors report phantom voices, strange lights, and sightings of the legendary Rougarou.
