Site of the pivotal 1755 Congress of Alexandria where British General Edward Braddock and five colonial governors gathered to plan military funding during the French and Indian War, the historic home is renowned for supernatural encounters involving John Carlyle and his first wife, Sarah Fairfax Carlyle.

Frequented by founding fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, and James Monroe, the establishment is equally famous for its ghostly legend of the 'Female Stranger.' In 1816, a mysteriously ill, unnamed woman was brought to Room 8, where she died in her husband's arms after all present swore a oath of secrecy regarding her identity.
