Located at 248 Oakland Avenue SE near downtown Atlanta, Georgia, the 48-acre Oakland Cemetery is the city's oldest public park and burial ground, established in 1850 as Atlanta Cemetery. A premier example of 19th-century Victorian rural garden cemetery design, Oakland holds over 70,000 human interments, including 6,900 Confederate soldiers, Union casualties, six Georgia governors, and 'Gone with the Wind' author Margaret Mitchell.
