    Established in 1850 along the Cooper River in Charleston, Magnolia Cemetery is South Carolina's oldest public rural cemetery. Celebrated for its Victorian funerary architecture, winding paths, and moss-draped live oaks, the 128-acre grounds contain over 35,000 graves, including Confederate generals, writers, politicians, and the crews of the submarine H.L. Hunley. Visitors and groundskeepers routinely report encounters with spectral figures in Civil War uniforms, disembodied weeping near mausoleums, and glowing light anomalies among the tombstones.

    Charleston's Old City Jail operated from 1802 until 1939, incarcerating thousands of infamous criminals, Civil War prisoners of war, pirates, and high-profile convicts. Notorious for extreme overcrowding, rampant disease, and harsh executions, an estimated 14,000 inmates died on the grounds. Today, it is recognized as one of the most intensely haunted buildings in America, famous for reports of poltergeist activity, physical scratches, disembodied screams, and encounters with the ghost of Lavinia Fisher, America's first female serial killer.
