    Old State Bank

    DecaturUnited States1833

Completed in July 1833, the Old State Bank in Decatur, Alabama, is one of the state's oldest surviving bank structures and an architectural masterpiece of the Federal-Greek Revival period. Standing proudly near the Tennessee River, it served as a state bank branch, municipal center, and crucial Union field hospital during the Civil War. As one of only four buildings in Decatur to survive the devastating 1864 Battle of Decatur, the bank carries a deeply rooted paranormal reputation tied to wartime trauma, featuring reports of phantom footsteps on the second floor, glowing lantern lights in the vault, and ghostly Civil War soldiers standing guard.
