Fort Delaware

Fort Delaware is a formidable 19th-century harbor defense fortress located on Pea Patch Island in the middle of the Delaware River. Best known for its role as a Union prisoner-of-war camp during the American Civil War, the fort held nearly 33,000 Confederate soldiers, political prisoners, and federal convicts under grueling and overcrowded conditions. Today, as a preserved state park, Fort Delaware is widely regarded as the most haunted location in the state of Delaware, famous for full-body apparitions, shadow figures in dark subterranean dungeons, thermal anomalies, and disembodied voices.
