    Fort Reno

    El RenoUnited States1874

Historic Fort Reno, situated west of El Reno in Canadian County, Oklahoma, is a historic U.S. military post established in July 1874 during the Indian Wars to protect the Darlington Indian Agency and control the Cheyenne and Arapaho reservations. Spanning over 25 preserved 19th-century military structures, a historic parade ground, and a military cemetery, the fort later served as a U.S. Army remount depot and a World War II prisoner-of-war camp housing German and Italian captives. Steeped in frontier warfare, soldier tragedies, and wartime deaths, Fort Reno is celebrated as one of Oklahoma's most actively haunted historical landmarks.
