    Carnton Plantation

    FranklinUnited States1826

Built in 1826 by Randal McGavock, Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee, became the central field hospital for Confederate casualties following the bloodiest hours of the Battle of Franklin on November 30, 1864. Over 1,500 wounded soldiers flooded the two-story brick mansion overnight, leaving permanent bloodstains soaked deep into the hardwood floors. Today, Carnton is renowned as one of Tennessee's most haunting historic sites, frequented by phantom soldiers, ghost nurse apparitions, and disembodied footsteps lingering from that tragic night.
