The Gurdon Light
The Gurdon Light is one of North America's most famous and persistent mysterious spooklights, situated along an isolated stretch of railroad trackbed cut deep through the pine forests near Gurdon in Clark County, Arkansas. First documented in the early 1930s during the Great Depression, the glowing orb presents as a hovering blue, white, or fiery orange light that sways and bobs rhythmically above the tracks. Local folklore attributes the light to the swinging lantern of a ghost railroad brakeman searching for his lost head, while scientific theories suggest piezoelectricity generated by underground quartz crystals under seismic pressure.
