Stoney-Baynard Plantation Ruins
The Stoney-Baynard Plantation Ruins, located within the Sea Pines preserve on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, encompass six acres of tabby stone ruins dating back to 1793. Built by Revolutionary War veteran Captain Jack Stoney and later owned by wealthy planter William Baynard, the grand estate was burned during the Civil War after Union forces occupied the island. Today, the weathered tabby ruins are renowned for persistent ghost sightings, including the apparition of William Baynard wandering among the live oaks, phantom horses galloping across the grounds, and spectral Union soldiers guarding the main entrance.
