    Old Joliet Prison, officially known as the Joliet Correctional Center, is a monumental 1858 maximum-security fortress in Joliet, Illinois. Designed by W.W. Boyington with limestone quarried on-site by inmate labor, the prison operated for 144 years, housing notorious criminals like Nathan Leopold, Richard Loeb, John Wayne Gacy, and serial killer Wayne Williams. Famous pop-culturally as the opening setting of *The Blues Brothers*, the abandoned fortress is world-renowned for paranormal activity, including spectral guards, disembodied cell door slams, and shadow inmates.
