The Devil's Chair
The Devil's Chair is a famous haunted mourning bench located inside the historic Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery in Volusia County, Florida. Situated near the historic Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, the massive brick-and-mortar bench was originally constructed as a grave site memorial for grieving family members to rest while visiting loved ones. Over the decades, the monument became the centerpiece of Florida's most famous cemetery urban legend. Local lore claims that sitting in the chair at midnight invites a personal encounter with the Devil, who is said to converse with daring visitors and mysteriously consume unopened beverages left overnight on the seat.
