Bodie Island Lighthouse
Bodie Island Lighthouse, located near Nags Head on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is a magnificent 156-foot black-and-white horizontal striped beacon completed in 1872. Standing near Oregon Inlet, it is the third lighthouse built to mark the treacherous shoals south of Roanoke Island after previous towers suffered structural collapse and Civil War demolition. Restored by the National Park Service and housing an original functioning First-Order Fresnel lens, the lighthouse and keeper's quarters are renowned for phantom footsteps, unseen lightkeepers, and lingering spectral voices.
