    Windsor Ruins

    Port GibsonUnited States1861–present

Windsor Ruins consists of 23 towering Corinthian columns standing silently in a secluded Claiborne County meadow near Port Gibson, Mississippi. Once the largest antebellum Greek Revival mansion ever built in the state, the grand four-story plantation house survived Civil War battles only to be completely consumed by an accidental fire in 1890 started by a guest's discarded cigarette. Designated a Mississippi Landmark, this haunting architectural skeleton is famed across the American South for phantom Union sentries, mysterious ghost lights, and spectral music echoing among the columns.
