    Positioned along the Alabama River, this 1837 landmark in Selma is one of the oldest operating antebellum riverfront hotels in the South. Originally named the Troupe House, it served as Confederate headquarters before Union troops occupied it after the 1865 Battle of Selma. Famed for its ties to outlaw Jesse James and pioneer African American Congressman Benjamin Sterling Turner, it is equally celebrated for ghost stories, including apparitions of Jesse James, his companion Lucinda, and a spectral dog roaming the courtyard.
