The Historic Drish House
The Historic Drish House in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is a grand antebellum mansion celebrated for its striking blend of Greek Revival and Italianate architecture. Built in 1837 for Dr. John R. Drish, a prominent physician and builder, the estate became legendary across the South through Kathryn Tucker Windham's iconic ghost story 'Death Lights in the Tower.' Following Dr. Drish's tragic death from a fall down the mansion stairs and his wife Sarah's subsequent obsession with his funeral candles, generations of residents have reported seeing glowing spectral fires illuminating the three-story tower windows when no lights are lit inside.
