Rose Hill Plantation
Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site in Union County, South Carolina, was the grand antebellum home of William Henry Gist, South Carolina's Secession Governor during the American Civil War. Built in 1828, the estate centers on a imposing two-story brick mansion surrounded by boxwood gardens and ancient oak trees near the Tyger River. Historically significant as a political nerve center of Southern secession, Rose Hill is equally famed for ghost stories, including the spirit of Governor Gist, phantom piano music, and unexplained specters roaming the grounds.
