Rabati Malik Caravanserai
Rabati Malik Caravanserai, constructed in 1078 by Karakhanid ruler Shams al-Mulk Nasr, is one of Central Asia's most famous surviving medieval Silk Road monuments. Located along the ancient trade route between Samarkand and Bukhara, the site served as a fortified royal caravanserai, palace, and military garrison. Famous for its monumental baked-brick portal archway and its unique subterranean domed water reservoir (Sardoba), Rabati Malik is equally celebrated in Uzbek folklore for haunting desert legends, phantom merchants, and mysterious lights.
