Al-Ghwayzi Fortress
Al-Ghwayzi Fortress is an eighteenth-century sentinel fort dramatically anchored to the base of a towering rock outcrop at the northern gateway of Al-Mukalla. Built by the Kesadi rulers to protect the coastal trading city from bedouin raids, this famous architectural landmark is rich with stories of ghost sentinels, hidden subterranean chambers, and desert spirits.
