Walhalla Ghost Town
Walhalla is an isolated historic gold mining town tucked deep within a steep mountain valley in Gippsland, Victoria. Founded in 1862 during a rich gold strike, Walhalla rapidly transformed into a bustling boomtown of over 4,000 residents, home to the famous Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine. Following the mine closures in 1914, the town was largely abandoned, turning into a preserved historic ghost town. Famous for its cliffside cemetery holding over 1,100 graves, phantom miners, disembodied cries, and evening ghost tours, it is recognized as one of Victoria's most haunted mountain settlements.
