    Sleeping Giant State Park

    HamdenUnited StatesPre-Colonial / 1924

Located in Hamden, Connecticut, Sleeping Giant State Park is a striking 1,500-acre state park famous for its prominent traprock mountain ridge that resembles a gigantic human figure lying in slumber on his back. According to ancient Quinnipiac legend, the mountain is the slumbering form of the stone spirit Hobbomock, put to sleep by the benevolent deity Kiehtan after altering the course of the Connecticut River. Highly popular among hikers for its 30 miles of trails and stone observation tower, the park is equally famed for eerie ghost stories, shadowy mountain figures, and phantom whispers echoing through dark rock ravines.
