Hoosac Tunnel
Cutting nearly five miles directly through the Hoosac Mountain Range in western Massachusetts, the Hoosac Tunnel is an engineering marvel and one of the most notoriously haunted locations in North America. Constructed between 1851 and 1875 to connect Boston with the Midwest rail network, the mega-project cost the lives of nearly two hundred construction workers in catastrophic explosions, cave-ins, and poisonous gas leaks, earning the site its terrifying nickname 'The Bloody Pit'. Today, railroad workers, locals, and paranormal researchers report eerie encounters with phantom miners, disembodied screams echoing from the central shaft, and strange glowing lights near the portals.
