    Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion

    PortsmouthUnited States1750

Situated along the scenic tidal shores of Little Harbor in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion is a sprawling 40-room colonial estate built in 1750 that served as the official residence and seat of government for Benning Wentworth, New Hampshire's first royal governor. Designated a National Historic Landmark, it is one of the nation's few surviving royal governors' residences. Shrouded in colonial lore, the labyrinthine mansion is reputedly haunted by Governor Wentworth, ghostly British redcoats, and mysterious apparitions in 18th-century attire.
