Constructed between 1844 and 1869 along the western bank of the Penobscot River in Prospect, Maine, Fort Knox is one of the best-preserved 19th-century granite fortifications in the United States. Named after Major General Henry Knox, the nation's first Secretary of War, this massive military stronghold never fired a shot in anger, yet it has earned an international reputation as an active paranormal hotspot.
