    Old GMC (Goa Medical College)

    PanajiIndia1842 (19th century)

The Old GMC complex in Panaji (Panjim), Goa, was originally founded in 1842 as the Escola Médico-Cirúrgica de Nova Goa—one of the oldest medical colleges in Asia. Situated along the scenic Mandovi River in Campal, this historic colonial medical complex served as Goa's premier public hospital for over 150 years before operations shifted to Bambolim in 1993. Behind its impressive Indo-Portuguese facade lies a haunting legacy of thousands of surgical deaths, epidemic quarantines, and morgue operations. Today, while portions of the complex have been repurposed for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and entertainment society offices, the abandoned old hospital wards and former morgue wings remain infamous for terrifying reports of phantom cries, footsteps, and ghostly medical staff roaming empty corridors late at night.
