The Great Chicago Theater Disaster Site

    ChicagoUnited States1903

The site of the Iroquois Theatre fire in downtown Chicago remains the tragic scene of the deadliest single-building fire in United States history. On December 30, 1903, an arc light ignited a velvet curtain during a sold-out matinee, claiming 602 lives within minutes. Today, the alleyway behind the theater—known as Couch Place or 'Death Alley'—is renowned for cold spots, disembodied cries, and apparitions of panic-stricken patrons.

    Interstate 4 'Dead Zone'

    SanfordUnited States1887 (Highway built 1963)

Stretching across a quarter mile segment of Interstate 4 near the St. Johns River Bridge in Sanford, Florida, the infamous Interstate 4 Dead Zone is widely regarded as one of the most haunted and lethal stretches of highway in North America. Constructed directly over a forgotten 1887 Yellow Fever burial ground belonging to early German immigrants, this short stretch of road experiences a disproportionately high rate of fatal vehicular crashes, phantom vehicle sightings, electronic glitches, static filled phone calls, and mysterious floating luminous orbs. Paranormal lore holds that disturbing the resting place of these pioneers cursed the highway from the very day it opened to public traffic.
