Aouzou Strip Outposts

Stretching across 114,000 square kilometers along Chad's far northern border with Libya, the desolate Aouzou Strip was the contested flashpoint of the fiercely fought Chadian-Libyan Conflict and Toyota War during the 1970s and 1980s. Bombarded by airstrikes and heavy artillery, ruined military outposts and burnt-out armored vehicles lie scattered across the shifting sand dunes.
