Nakfa Underground War Trenches
Nakfa served as the invincible underground headquarters of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) during the 30-year War of Independence. Cut deep into granite mountains, a subterranean city of bunkers, hospitals, printing presses, and trenches survived thousands of Ethiopian air strikes. Known today as a sacred national shrine and dark tourism landmark, visitors report hearing phantom radio chatter, underground footsteps, and disembodied whispers in the dark tunnels.
