Laas Geel Cave Paintings Complex
Laas Geel is an extraordinary Neolithic rock art complex comprising roughly ten granite cave shelters nestled within a desert outcrop between Hargeisa and Berbera. Featuring remarkably preserved rock paintings dating back between 5,000 and 7,000 years, the vibrant red and yellow pigment murals depict ceremonial long-horned cattle, wild animals, and ancient human figures. Local nomadic pastoralists have long viewed the granite caves with deep reverence, believing them to be inhabited by powerful jinn spirits who guard the prehistoric art.
