    Borella Kanatte Cemetery

    ColomboSri Lanka1866

Borella Kanatte Cemetery is the primary multi-denominational burial ground in Colombo, spanning nearly 48 acres in the heart of the capital. Established by British colonial authorities in 1866, the sprawling necropolis houses Victorian tombs, Commonwealth War Graves from both World Wars, and the graves of notable historical figures including author Sir Arthur C. Clarke. It is widely regarded as one of Colombo's most active paranormal hotspots, famous for phantom apparitions, disembodied whispers, and spectral colonial figures.

Galle Face Burial Site (Taj Samudra Grounds)

    ColomboSri Lanka18th–19th Century

The land encompassing the southern end of Galle Face Green—where luxury hotels including the Taj Samudra stand today—was originally the principal 18th and 19th-century British military burial ground in Colombo. Before the exhumation and transfer of graves to Borella Kanatte in the 1860s and 1920s, hundreds of British soldiers, sailors, and colonial settlers were interred here. Night staff and guests report eerie encounters with spectral white figures and shifting shadows.
