Kalhaidhoo Island
Kalhaidhoo is a haunting, overgrown abandoned island in Laamu Atoll that was permanently evacuated following the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami on December 26, 2004. Its entire population was relocated to nearby Gan Island, leaving behind empty coral homes, abandoned mosques, overgrown graveyards, and personal belongings. Today, Kalhaidhoo is feared by local boatmen who describe eerie phantom footsteps, disembodied cries, and restless spirits roaming the decaying jungle ruins.
