Koldinghus
Koldinghus is Jutland’s last royal castle, towering above the town lake in central Kolding. Founded in 1268 by King Eric V Glipping to guard Denmark's southern border against the Duchy of Schleswig, the castle served for centuries as a royal residence and fortress. In 1808, during the Napoleonic Wars, a massive fire reduced the grand palace to a hollow ruin. Rebuilt in the late twentieth century with award-winning modern wooden architecture, Koldinghus retains a mysterious atmosphere haunted by royal figures and spirits from its tragic fire.
