Spøttrup Castle
Spøttrup Castle is Denmark’s best-preserved medieval defensive fortress, standing isolated near the Limfjord in western Jutland. Constructed around 1520 by the Bishops of Viborg, the stronghold features formidable double ramparts, deep water moats, and narrow drawbridge portals designed to resist heavy artillery attack. Beyond its austere stone walls and medieval architecture, Spøttrup is famous for local stories of restless spirits, phantom knights, and unexplained atmospheric phenomena within its vaulted halls.
