Stobi Archaeological Site
Stobi is an ancient Paeonian, Hellenistic, and Roman city located near the confluence of the Crna and Vardar rivers in central North Macedonia. Once a thriving provincial capital featuring grand basilicas, mosaic-paved palaces, baths, and a large Roman amphitheatre, Stobi was devastated by earthquakes and barbarian invasions before being abandoned in the 6th century. Today, visitors and night watchmen report disembodied voices, cold spots, and spectral apparitions of Roman citizens and soldiers wandering through the excavated ruins.
