Marko's Towers
Marko's Towers (Markovi Kuli) is a massive medieval fortress complex perched dramatically upon a steep, 180-metre-high granite hill overlooking the town of Prilep in southern North Macedonia. Named after King Marko, the legendary 14th-century ruler who resisted Ottoman expansion, the fortified citadel incorporates natural rock monoliths, multi-tiered defensive walls, and ruined watchtowers. Local folklore holds that the spirits of fallen warriors who died defending the realm continue to patrol the mist-shrouded granite battlements after dusk.
