Uparkot Fort
Uparkot Fort in Junagadh, Gujarat, is an ancient citadel dating back to 319 BCE during the Mauryan Empire. Built on a elevated plateau in the shadow of Mount Girnar, this heavily fortified fortress survived sixteen major historical sieges across two millennia. Its deep rock-cut stepwells, dark underground Buddhist caves, Jama Masjid, and abandoned royal quarters have long fostered local ghost stories, particularly regarding spirits wandering the ancient ramparts after dark.
