Vasai Fort
Vasai Fort (Bassein Fort) is a sprawling 16th-century Portuguese coastal fortification located in Vasai, Palghar District, Maharashtra. Captured by Maratha general Chimaji Appa in 1739 after a historic three-year siege, this expansive citadel contains ruined churches, vaulted watchtowers, and overgrown ramparts. It is renowned in local folklore for spectral sightings of Portuguese soldiers, phantom church choirs, disembodied cries, and eerie nighttime phenomena.
