Paro Taktsang
Paro Taktsang, widely known as the 'Tiger's Nest', is Bhutan's most famous cliffside monastic complex, clinging dramatically to a sheer granite cliff face 900 meters above the Paro valley floor. Founded in 1692 around the sacred cave where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) flew on the back of a tigress in the 8th century to subdue the local demon Singye Samdup, the monastery is a focal point of intense Vajrayana spiritual power and supernatural lore. Visitors, monks, and pilgrims report encounters with ghostly apparitions in the meditation caves, mysterious disembodied chanting emanating from sealed rock fissures, and sudden, inexplicable atmospheric pressure shifts that leave trekkers awestruck.
