    Kastel Fortress

    Banja LukaBosnia and Herzegovina3rd–18th century

Occupying a central riverbank position where the Crkvena stream flows into the emerald Vrbas River in Banja Luka, Kastel Fortress is one of the oldest military strongholds in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Spanning nearly two millennia of continuous human occupation, the sprawling stone complex contains Roman foundations (Castra), medieval defense walls, and extensive 17th-century Ottoman bastions.
