Chung Hwa Middle School Grounds & Hill
Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS), founded in 1922 in Kampong Berangan, is Brunei's oldest and largest Chinese private school. During the Japanese occupation of North Borneo in World War II, the school grounds and the wooded hill directly behind the main block were requisitioned by Japanese military forces. Local folklore and student traditions document ghostly military patrols on the upper corridors, phantom marching boots in the hall, self-moving classroom furniture, and apparition sightings near wartime grave sites on the school hill.
