Atauloma Girls School
Perched on a jungle-clad hillside overlooking Afao village on Tutuila Island, the abandoned Atauloma Girls School is widely considered the most intensely haunted structure in American Samoa. Built in 1900 by the London Missionary Society, this former boarding school and nursing seminary was abandoned in 1970 and gradually consumed by tropical vegetation. Renowned for intense supernatural activity—including shadow figures, phantom choral singing, disembodied cries, and aggressive supernatural phenomena—the site is heavily associated with local spirit lore (aitu) and attracted international paranormal investigation when featured on Ghost Hunters International.
